Excitedly, I signed up for my first 5k run. In the past, I have participated in events like the Color Run, but those were more walking with friends. For those who have been following along with me thus far, knows that I am not one for cardio. This makes the challenge all the more difficult.
I feel like calling a 5k difficult may be a little much. I have the endurance and motivation to increase my running stamina. Thinking back, I do not believe that I have ever run 3.1 miles in a single session outside. I have found that running on a treadmill, in air condition, to be a completely different ballpark. Of course, I have created a master plan to conquer this.
First, I made a plan. My plan is to run every other day. The days that I do not run, I am using my Fitbit to make sure that I walk at least 10k steps. On those off-days, I will continue my weight training.
This morning, I woke up at 6 a.m. and ran around the neighborhood. I am using a mobile app called C25K Couch to 5K by RunDouble , which is a free app that is similar to the Couch to 5k. I completed day two this morning. It has been a nice guide so far.
Attached is a picture of my stats. With that said, if you have any running tips, I am all ears!
How is the running going? I have heard good things about that app you are using. I just use runkeeper and when I was first starting back, I only increased my mileage by a small amount each week. There is NO comparison between running outside, and running on a treadmill. If you think about it, only the treadmill is moving, while when you are outside you must not only keep moving, but continue to move in a forward direction. I love outdoor running. Hate the treads. I find running a perfect compliment to weight training! I am personally at a standstill with running as I injured my ankle (jumping up and down curbs and bleachers…) But I’ll be back in that game, soon. Get in some running for me, please. Stay warm and keep sharing your workouts! They are motivating and educational. Love reading them.
Thanks Bonni. I really like this app. I feel like it is building me up. However, I just had to replace my phone and all the data was lost. Even after I logged back in, the data was gone. It is not a big deal, but all my progress is gone.
Today is one month and a day until my first real 5k. I would definitely recommend this app for anyone who is training for the first time, or getting back into running.
Thank you for the compliment! I love reading yours as well.
